The incident took place in Dutchess County around 5:48 p.m. when the victim told police that he was approached on East Market Street in Red Hook by a shorter white male, with gray facial hair and possibly gray hair, driving a blue Chevrolet pickup truck.
According to Red Hook Police, the victim said he was walking westbound on East Market Street when the male pulled up next to him and said: "Hi, I know your father."
When the victim did not respond, the suspect exited his vehicle and attempted to approach the boy.
When the victim saw him approaching, he fled the area. The suspect left the area headed East on Route 199, police said.
Police are asking any motorists or anyone who was in the area of East Market Street and might have witnessed the incident to call the Red Hook Police Department at 845-758-0060.
